Thanks to all of you who participated in the successful social media campaign to win historic preservation funds for Meridian Hill Park--a spectacular unit of Rock Creek Park on 16th Street NW! The funds will stabilize and repair the grotto at the 16th Street entrance.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation selected Meridian Hill Park--also known as Malcolm X Park--to participate in Partners in Preservation, a community-based initiative of American Express and the Trust.
Rock Creek Conservancy worked with the National Park Service, the Meridian Hill Neighborhood Association, and Washington Parks and People to get out the vote for Meridian Hill Park.
There were thousands of votes for heritage sites across the region to compete for $1 million in grant funds. Two units of Rock Creek Park--Meridian Hill Park and Dumbarton Oaks Park--were each awarded $50,000.
